Rebellious Yoga Tip #1

Being a Rebellious Yogi is all about stepping out of the box, trying new things, and having fun! Not sure how to be a rebellious yogi, or just looking some fresh ideas? I'm here to help with my first tip of the year!!

Rebellious Yogi Tip #1:

If you're a person who typically only does yoga at a yoga studio/gym, or along with youtube videos or have a favorite DVD you can't function without, try doing yoga without these things! Find out what would happen if you just arrived at your mat with your favorite yoga tunes, and just began moving. It's not as terrifying as it may seem!

Yes, you may get stuck the first time. You may not know what to do next. That's okay! The more you try this, the more you listen to your body, the more nourishing it will feel.

A few pointers to get started:
  • Begin with Sun salutation. If you're unsure where to begin, use Sun salutation as your base. As you continue with your poses, add a few new ones in between. Maybe from downward dog you move into Warrior I instead of down into plank and cobra. Perhaps tree pose would be nice at the end of your sequence. Play around with different combinations, and find your own flow.
  • There is no wrong way to do this. As long as you're being safe, you can't go wrong! It may look silly, or maybe it looks bad ass (your flow is always bad ass), but your practice is NEVER wrong or bad.
  • Listen to your body. Your body knows what it needs. Let your intuition guide you. You may find yourself in more restorative poses than normal. Or you may be holding poses for longer, or doing more standing poses. Listen and trust your body. Say yes to what it wants.
  • HAVE FUN! And move with Love. Be proud of yourself for trying something out of the ordinary.

I hope these tips encourage you to turn off the DVD and use your own magnificent skills to create what you need. You don't have to turn away from your favorite studio forever, but it's nice to move at your own pace sometimes.

Are you someone who moves to their own flow? Leave a few tips in the comments for those of us who may be new to this!

And if you are moving to your own unrehearsed flow for the first time, be sure to some back and let me know how it went!

Wishing you a bright and beautiful Sunday dear Yogi.

Shanti,
Dyamond
